ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: Attempted to explore the fact that there are no new Masters in the contemporary art world. The work of the artists in this show represent an eclectic sampling of different strategies of artistic production in the absence of the master. These artists are, each in her own way, exploring the possibilities of worlds without an anchoring Master Signifier. Each has given herself the license to work in the style of the Masters – with intensity, passion, and integrity. The woman artist has had to not only negotiate with hysteria as a functional position, she has had to deal with the moralizing ethic that would have her be the perfect exemplar, a careful technician, or a political pedagogue.
